The High Low

The High Low is a weekly pop-culture and news podcast created and hosted by me and Pandora Sykes. Inspired by Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, who coined the term ‘high low journalism’ in the 80s to denote an amalgamation of water-cooler gossip and hard-hitting cultural happenings, our new podcast is based on the belief that a life well-lived is one that enjoys both the trivial and the political, from errant chin hair to Trumpian politics. Each week, we dissect and discuss the zeitgeist with stories found far and wide, from brows high and low.

In its first month of existence, The High Low peaked at number two in the UK iTunes chart. We have since been sponsored by brands such as Google, Now TV, NARS, Sainsburys Home, Heist, Pop Chips and Papier.

We also host author specials and have interviewed writers such as David Nicholls, Leila Slimani, Renni Eddo-Lodge, Fatima Bhutto, Lindsey Hilsum, Nimco Ali about their respective books. In November 2017 we were thrilled to interview iconic editor, and inspiration for our podcast’s title and philosophy, Tina Brown.

In 2019, we were profiled by Anne McElvoy for The Sunday Times Magazine to mark our 100th episode and live tour announcement. Read it here.

You can listen to episode on Acast or download on iTunes.

Refreshing, witty…in a world where podcasts can stray into 90-minute slogs full of rambling diversions, The High Low is resolutely tight.

The Guardian

Like listening to two of your best mates lovingly take the piss out of each other at the pub, I loved co-hosts Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton’s jokey rapport…I was hooked. Dolly and Pandora’s podcast baby, The High Low, has charmed listeners across the nation – and the world – with its millions of subscribers regularly landing it at the top of the most-listened-to charts. Make your way through the backlogs, and you’ll be left with a smile on your face – but also feeling a that little bit smarter.

Elle

Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton’s High Low mixes the trivial and the political. The female duo echo the American trend (Think: Two Dope Queens, Call Your Girlfriend), but acknowledges their privilege in a refreshingly transparent manner. A chat show that’s mindful, not mindless? The perfect background for your commute.

The Evening Standard

The only thing I love more than British accents is a critical take on pop culture and boy do they bring it. Not only do they come every week with fantastic recommendations in the form of books, journalism and more, they also recap actual news and it’s an extremely digestible way to find out what’s happening in the world.

Man Repeller

Done with wit, intelligence and an archly raised eyebrow. Subjects have so far included buzzwords, sexting and double buns — which turns out to be a hairstyle as opposed to a buy-one-get-one-free deal at the bakers.

The Financial Times

What makes The High Low THE podcast to listen to is the dynamite dynamic duo behind the thought provoking comments. Hosted by girl crush of the year, 2018 and author Dolly Alderton alongside the journalist who serves up styling inspiration every single day, Pandora Sykes, both gals bring their own unique take on the zeitgeist topic of the day covering everything from Cardi B to the politics behind the recent Met Ball theme.

Glamour

Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes’s show is an imperial force in the millennial ‘podcastoverse’. Intelligent, sensitive discussion of pop culture, TV, books, lifestyle questions and the news. Don’t be deceived by the show’s breezy and approachable style; it works because its polymathic hosts are fiercely on top of their brief.

The Times

With Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes at the helm, a listen is chicken soup for the soul – comforting, warm and familiar. You will come away loving yourself, and the Panda to your Dolly even more.

Love Stories

In 2018, in conjunction with the publication of Everything I Know About Love, I created and hosted a podcast mini-series called Love Stories, in which I talked to guests about their most defining relationships.

There are 18 episodes to listen to online, including interviews with Vanessa Kirby, Stanley Tucci, Sharon Horgan, Lolly Adefope, Sara Pascoe and Marianne Keyes. It debuted at no. 1 in the iTunes chart.
